| Transcript of the interview with Suha Arafat |
| Sunday 3rd January 2010 |
First of all thank you for being with us here in Ghajnsielem. What are your first impressions of this village of Ghajnsielem?
First of all I am very proud to be here among you. When Dr Joe Mifsud called me, I could not believe it and now I am witnessing Bethlehem. It reminds me, I feel like crying because it reminds me of my late husband Yasser Arafat the noble prize winner and the great leader. It reminded me of this gathering when we were waiting for the archbishop of Jerusalem to come with all the band, orchestra of all the Christian choirs all over the areas. Really really I am so much touched and so much moved by this great achievement in Gozo which reminds us the past of Jesus Christ that suffered for peace and the Palestinian people are suffering every day for peace. But here in Gozo there is no wall like Bethlehem. There is no wall, this hatred wall between the same people, the same sons of Abraham because Jewish and Christians and Muslims we are all sons of Abraham. We are all in this Holy Land that spread the message of Jesus Christ, the message of peace, the message of justice in the Holy Land. I hope that this peace will come again with all your effort with all these people like Joe Mifsud, like Michael Frendo, like all the great people who are here among you here in Gozo, that peace will remain again and will come again in the Holy Land.
You have visited the Parish Church. What do you think of the Parish Church?
I like the parish church so much. It’s very very very beautiful and the statue of the Madonna in gold and I was told by the father of the church about the story and I was so much proud how all the Gozitans here had all their money to make this nice statue of gold and I am proud because the Madonna for us is a very sacred even in the Arab World and for the Christian World she’s a sacred lady. I am proud. The church is beautifully decorated and I hope the bells will be very very soon set up.
Before, you talked about peace and about justice. Can you give us a small message of peace to our listeners who are listening just right now?
Yes, I think you have to be proud of Malta, proud of Malta and Gozo because maybe you don’t feel how much you are safe here, how much you are in peace in this country, how much parties together here, liberty of press, liberty of freedom in your country, how much safe is your country. Maybe you don’t appreciate it, you have to appreciate your country that it’s safe, you are living a normal life and that a normal life does not exist to everybody all over the world. You have maybe to thank Jesus and to thank God for this blessing. I hope that God will bless this country and peace will overcome to our country and we stay always in your country.
Thank you so much for your comments. We do appreciate your presence here in Ghajnsielem and your live comments on our radio station Radio Lauretana. Thank you so much and I wish you the best of luck. Thank you so much. |
